Westcott East Neighborhood Association February 8, 2010 Minutes--DRAFT NEXT MEETING: Sunday, February 28, 5:00 pm, One Village Dance Centre Persons registering as in attendance: WENA Board: Starke Donnally, Alice Honig, Grace McNamara, Joanne Waghorne, Charles Tremper, Marilyn Zaleon WENA members and guests: Sam Laguzza 1. Welcome and introductions (no news please): Stark called the meeting to order at 6:45 2. Presentation of January 11, 2010 minutes for approval: with the correction of the date of the Thronden Park chili fest having been corrected in the agenda, Alice moved and Grace seconded the approval of the minutes; passed unanimously. 3. Financial Report: Starke Donnally: Starke reported $2414.89 in the no longer a super shares account and $96.90 in the share draft account; fee of $35 paid (WENA not a credit union member) 4. Board Membership/Annual Meeting a. Annual Meeting Organizing i. Postcards out on February 3 ii. Membership Roster: Marilyn will bring to meeting iii. Agenda: Barb will draft with input from board iv. Food: Barb will talk to Alto Cinco, Las Delicias, Dorians. Can members commit to bringing beverages/desserts? Wine? Concerns raised serving wine: possibility of underage student attendees drinking; possible liability for WENA or for the dance center. v. Ballot: who can do this? Starke or Chas can prepare once the slate has been determined. vi. Survey: With board input, Barb will draft one for attendees to complete. Hope to generate ideas for activities, new participation. b. March meeting: any interest in board only to elect officers and plan upcoming year? If yes, ideas for date (3/8?) and location? Consensus was to meet March 8 with a general meeting at Petit, hopefully to capitalize on any interest in becoming involved elicited from those attending the annual meeting. Closed session also on the 8th for board to elect officers. 5. Program/Outreach Initiatives a. Safety Report: No safety report. Joanne raised concerns about the parking lot on Harvard: once the dance studio closes, the lot is becoming a "hang-out" spot, with lots of noise; has become a nuisance for those living within earshot. b. Networking with Other Neighborhood Organizations and the City i. Eastside TNT: next meeting February 9; maybe reorganizing; interest in program on part of new administration. ii. University Neighborhood Partnership: no report iii. UNSAAC: funding recommendations to Mayor: $1000 to community garden; nothing for Website or Walking patrol. iv. Westcott Leadership Roundtable: Marilyn gave a brief report. Joanne Stewart reported from UNPA; Grace talked about the fair; Petit will feature a lecture series in the fall (4 speakers); Syracuse Grows interested in becoming a regular member. 6. Old/New Business a. Westcott Walking Patrol: WENA still owed paperwork from merchants; SPD provided their paperwork. To be discussed at retreat. Nothing from the merchants for November/December who had agreed to provide more detailed reporting. WENA's role in this will end by June 30 at the latest. b. Westcott Sidewalk Snow Removal Project Update: Harvard has not been plowed since the new year. c. Getting the WENA agenda before the new administration i. Renaissance Plan: no news (Petit has a copy) ii. Other plans, ideas for neighborhood growth and development (community policing) 7. Announcements and Good News: Alice brought a copy of her latest book. 8. Upcoming Events: a. TNT: 2/9/10, Levy School: 7-8:30 p.m. b.
