Westcott East Neighborhood Association January 11, 2010 Minutes NEXT MEETING: To be determined at One Village Dance Centre Persons registering as in attendance: WENA Board: Starke Donnally, Barbara Humphrey, Jill Ouikahilo, Charles Tremper, Marilyn Zaleon WENA Members and Guests: Steve Weigl, 1. Welcome and introductions (no news please): Starke called the meeting to order at 6:42 p.m. after the arrival of the 4th board member. 2. Presentation of December 14, 2009 minutes for approval: After amending the minutes to reflect Jennifer Karius's name in 3a, Barbara moved and Marilyn seconded the approval of the minutes; passed unanimously. 3. Financial Report: Starke Donnally reported some $2,513.75 in the interest-drawing super shares account and $31.90 in the share draft account. 4. Board Membership/Annual Meeting: Discussion ensued as to when to hold the annual meeting. February 7 is Super Bowl Sunday and this will affect attendance. Jill will check as to the availability of the Centre for a February 28 meeting; if not available, the meeting will remain on the 7th. Once the date is determined, the mailing will go out; other corrections were made including the spelling of Centre and the address, Harvard Place, not Westcott. Food will be ordered from Alto's (guacamole, salsa, chips); Dorian's (pizza); Las Delicias (epinadas). Board members will supply beverages, including wine, and folding chairs. a. Board Members whose terms expire in 2010: Ollie Clubb (no), Luz Encarnacion (yes), Tony Gigliotti (??), Alice Honig (yes), Barbara Humphrey (yes), Marilyn Zaleon (yes) (6 of 12 members). Who will stay on update? b. New Board Member Suggestions: no discussion c. Annual Meeting Organizing i. Notice: labels, postcards, stamps: see above ii. Membership Roster: Marilyn has and will update with recent personnel / election changes iii. Agenda: a. Election of new board b. Report to the community c. Reminder about dues and provide opportunity to pay at meeting d. Tour/description of dance studio iv. Food: see above v. Ballot: Once slate is determined, Chas can prepare, vi. Other? 5. Program/Outreach Initiatives a. Safety Report: Steve reported one of the teens involved in the daylight robberies has been arrested and has admitted to one of the robberies; identity of the second robber still unknown. Another shooting occurred on E. Fayette. When students return, information on break-ins over the holidays will be known. Walking patrol will resume the first weekend of February. b. Networking with Other Neighborhood Organizations and the City i. Eastside TNT—meeting is January 12; Paul Driscoll will attend; how to make TNT more effective will be discussed; many issues are city wide and need to be dealt with across TNT lines. ii. University Neighborhood Partnership: looking at issue to address this year. Considering crime, but not convinced this is most appropriate iii. Report from UNSAAC: Community Meeting 12/18: grant proposal for Westcott nation web site failed; only $1,000 of $3,000 requested for community garden was received. Future of Walking patrol in doubt; role for SU public safety has been proposed. Merchants unhappy with outcome and with WENA. iv. Westcott Leadership Roundtable: met, but no report 6. Old/New Business a. Westcott Walking Patrol—Monitoring Report and Officer Logs: still need these for November and 1st week of December. b. Westcott Sidewalk Snow Removal Project Update: started, seems to be working well; Sean Kirst will write up for the Post Standard. c. Renaissance plan for business district was discussed at some length, with desire to insure new city administration gets a copy. Ideas raised back in 1996 are still valid, despite the changes to the district. 7. Announcements and Good News: there were none 8. Upcoming Events: a. TNT: 1/12/10, 7 pm, Levy School b.
